Apple Unveils iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, and More at “It’s Glowtime” Fall Event

Apple’s much-anticipated fall event, “It’s Glowtime,” lived up to expectations with a slew of product announcements, marking significant advancements across its iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods lines. The tech giant also introduced updates to its software ecosystem and accessories, with pre-orders set to begin soon and a global release slated for later this month. Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything Apple unveiled.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max: New Features and Record Battery Life

The flagship stars of the event were the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, boasting larger displays and enhanced functionality. The standout feature is the new camera control button, designed for photography enthusiasts, providing customizable shortcuts to different shooting modes and camera functions.

With the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Apple set a new record for battery life, promising up to 33 hours of usage—making it the longest-lasting iPhone ever. Both models support up to 25W charging with MagSafe, allowing for faster wireless charging.

Another key addition is the iPhone’s compatibility with JPEG-XL format, providing superior image compression without sacrificing quality—perfect for professionals who need high-quality photos. Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max start on September 13, with availability on September 20.

Key details include:

  • Display Size: Larger than iPhone 15 Pro models.
  • Storage: Begins at 128GB, with options up to 1TB.
  • Weight: Slightly heavier than iPhone 15 Pro due to larger batteries and materials.
  • Camera Control: Offers new levels of customization for photography.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: New Design with Powerful Internals

Apple also introduced the more affordable iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, featuring an Action Button, similar to the Pro models, that allows users to perform quick actions like turning on the flashlight or taking notes. The camera control features from the Pro line also trickle down, making it easier for users to switch between photo and video modes seamlessly.

In terms of connectivity, all iPhone 16 models now support Wi-Fi 7, offering faster speeds and more stable connections. Additionally, outside the U.S., the iPhone 16 models retain the physical SIM card tray, a notable feature for international users. Under the hood, all iPhone 16 models come equipped with 8GB of RAM, enhancing Apple’s machine learning-based features under Apple Intelligence.

Notably, Apple limited the USB-C ports on the iPhone 16 and Pro models to USB 2 speeds, meaning that faster data transfers are still not part of the package despite the switch from Lightning to USB-C.

Apple Watch Series 10: A Refined Design with a Bigger Display

The Apple Watch Series 10 was another highlight of the event, offering a thinner profile and a bigger display compared to its predecessor. This iteration of the Apple Watch is more streamlined and packs improved functionality, making it the most advanced smartwatch Apple has ever built.

For adventurers and fitness enthusiasts, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 was also refreshed with a new Satin Black finish. It also gets a sleek Titanium Milanese Loop band and the option to pair it with exclusive Hermès designs. However, no major changes were made to the Apple Watch SE or the previous Ultra model, as Apple focused its efforts on the Series 10 and Ultra 2.

AirPods 4: Improved Fit and USB-C Compatibility

Apple continues to evolve its wireless earbuds lineup with the introduction of AirPods 4, which now come in two models that offer an improved fit for better comfort and noise isolation. The much-requested USB-C charging port replaces the Lightning port, standardizing Apple’s charging technology across its newest devices.

In addition to fit improvements, AirPods 4 feature enhanced sound quality and better integration with Apple’s ecosystem, including seamless switching between devices. The AirPods Pro 2 were also upgraded with hearing protection and aid features, making them a great choice for users with specific hearing needs.

Software Updates: iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and More

Apple announced that its latest software versions, including iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and tvOS 18, will be released on September 16. The upcoming iOS 18.1 update will introduce advanced features, like Apple Intelligence, but will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.

These software updates will bring new functionalities and performance improvements to Apple’s entire product lineup. Notably, iOS 18 introduces the ability to pause video recording mid-shoot, a feature aimed at content creators and mobile filmmakers.

New Accessories and Band Colors

The event also showcased a variety of accessories, including almost 40 new band colors for the Apple Watch. Apple introduced new silicone and plastic cases for the iPhone 16 lineup, while Beats, Apple’s subsidiary, launched new cases for iPhone 16 models as well.

Despite rumors of their discontinuation, Apple’s EarPods remain available for purchase following the event. Meanwhile, the Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones now include heart rate measurement capabilities, marking a first in Apple’s audio lineup.

Other Announcements

Apple also announced the discontinuation of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 models, paving the way for the latest iPhone 16 lineup. Additionally, AirPods Max were updated with a USB-C port and new color options, while Apple’s satellite services were expanded to the UK and Canada.

Launch Dates and Availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models begin on Friday, September 13, with the official release scheduled for Friday, September 20. The Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4 are available for pre-order starting today.

With innovations across every category, Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event has set the stage for yet another transformative year in technology, as customers gear up to get their hands on the newest devices.
