Lenovo Legion Tab Review: A Compact Powerhouse for Gamers and Professionals

Lenovo, already a dominant player in the gaming laptop segment with its Legion and LOQ series, has now ventured into gaming tablets with the Legion Tab. This 8.8-inch tablet, designed primarily for mobile gamers, boasts high-end specs, thoughtful ergonomics, and performance tuning to enhance the gaming experience. However, its powerful hardware and versatile connectivity options also make it a compelling choice for professionals and content creators who need a portable yet capable device.

Priced at ₹39,999 (MRP), with offer-based discounts bringing it down to ₹29,999, the Legion Tab is more than just a gaming tablet—it’s a performance-driven companion suited for both entertainment and productivity.

Design, Display, and Audio: A Gaming-Centric Yet Functional Approach

The all-metal matte finish with a reflective Legion logo gives the Legion Tab a premium and durable appeal. Weighing just 350 grams, it’s compact and easy to hold, whether for extended gaming sessions or work on the go.

One of its standout design elements is the inclusion of dual USB Type-C ports—a USB 3.2 port on the longer edge for DisplayPort output and high-speed data transfer, and a USB 2.0 port on the shorter edge for charging or connecting peripherals like controllers and external storage. This dual-port setup makes the Legion Tab highly versatile, allowing users to connect an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, effectively turning it into a compact workstation at home or in the office. When on the move, users can simply carry the tablet along and continue working seamlessly.

The 8.8-inch LCD panel (2560×1600 resolution) with a 144 Hz refresh rate delivers a smooth and immersive viewing experience, ideal for gaming, content creation, and multitasking. HDR support enhances colors and contrast, making visuals pop, though brightness levels could have been slightly better for outdoor use. Stereo speakers, strategically placed at the top, ensure that sound isn’t obstructed in landscape mode. While they offer above-average audio clarity, they lack deep bass, which might be noticeable during gaming or video playback.

One notable omission is the lack of an IP rating for dust and water resistance, which could be a concern for those planning to use it outdoors frequently.

Performance: A Powerhouse for Gaming and Work

The Legion Tab is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, paired with 12GB LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. While not the absolute latest processor, it remains a powerhouse, delivering flagship-level performance. The larger tablet form factor aids in better heat dissipation, ensuring sustained gaming performance without excessive thermal throttling.

Benchmark Scores:

  • Geekbench 6 (CPU Multi-core): 4685
  • Geekbench 6 (GPU): 5855
  • 3DMark Steel Nomad Light: 856
  • 3DMark Wild Life Extreme: 2818

These scores place it in the upper echelon of gaming tablets, on par with flagship smartphones from the past year. During real-world testing, BGMI, Real Racing 3, and Asphalt Legends Unite ran smoothly at high settings, with minimal frame drops even during extended sessions. The overall gaming experience was fluid, with no noticeable stutter or lag.

Beyond gaming, the Legion Tab excels in productivity. Video editing, multitasking with split-screen apps, and even running professional applications like Microsoft Office, design tools, or remote desktop software feel seamless. The DisplayPort-out feature transforms it into a workstation, allowing users to connect to an external display for a more expansive work setup

Gaming Features and Software Enhancements

Lenovo has incorporated several gaming-centric software optimizations to improve the experience. Users can switch between Balanced, Performance, and Energy Saving modes to optimize battery life and efficiency. The Bypass Charging feature allows the tablet to draw power directly from the adapter without charging the battery, reducing heat buildup during gaming sessions. Additionally, floating performance metrics display real-time CPU/GPU speeds, FPS, and surface temperature, providing valuable insights for performance tuning. Other useful features include mistouch prevention and an in-game screen recording option, ensuring a more seamless gaming experience. However, a unified gaming hub for organizing installed games would have been a welcome addition.

Camera and Android Software Experience

While gaming is the Legion Tab’s primary focus, it still includes dual cameras—a 13 MP rear camera with an LED flash and an 8 MP front camera for video calls and casual photography. The rear camera is adequate for scanning documents or capturing quick snapshots but lacks the finesse of premium tablet cameras. Meanwhile, the front camera performs well for video calls and game streaming, delivering decent clarity.

Running on Android 14 with Lenovo’s minimal UI tweaks, the software experience feels clean and responsive. However, the setup process prompts users to install some preloaded apps, which can be removed later. The multi-window functionality works smoothly, allowing users to game while chatting or browsing, enhancing multitasking capabilities.

Battery Life: Sufficient for Gaming on the Go

The 6,550 mAh battery might seem small compared to traditional tablets, but Lenovo has optimized it well. For casual usage, including web browsing, video streaming, and social media, the device easily lasts up to 2 days. When gaming at high settings, battery life averages around 4-5 hours, which is in line with other compact gaming devices.

Charging speeds are impressive, thanks to the included 45W charger. The device reaches 80% in about 30 minutes, with the final 20% taking another 30 minutes. The Bypass Charging mode proves to be a valuable addition, ensuring the battery isn’t unnecessarily stressed during long gaming sessions when plugged in.

Verdict: More Than Just a Gaming Tablet

At a price point of around 30k (after discounts), the Lenovo Legion Tab is more than just a gaming tablet—it’s a high-performance productivity tool for professionals, creators, and mobile gamers alike.

For gamers, it delivers flagship-level performance, an ultra-smooth display, and powerful gaming optimizations. For professionals and content creators, its high-speed performance, multi-window support, and DisplayPort-out functionality make it a portable yet capable workstation. Whether you need a gaming powerhouse, a content creation tool, or a versatile mobile workstation, the Lenovo Legion Tab offers the best of all worlds in a compact, feature-packed form factor.
