Motorola Edge 50 Fusion Review: A Stellar Contender in the Under-25k Segment

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion has made quite a splash in the under-25k segment, boasting a blend of premium features and an attractive price tag. After spending over a week with this smartphone, it’s clear that Motorola has packed a lot of value into this device, particularly with its impressive camera and striking curved display.

Design and Display

The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is a feast for the eyes with its vibrant color options and sleek design. Available in Hot Pink vegan suede, Marshmallow Blue vegan leather, and Forest Blue plastic composite, each variant offers a distinct tactile experience. We had the elegant looking Marshmallow Blue vegan leather variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The device’s slim profile at 7.9mm (excluding the camera bump) and lightweight build at 175g make it comfortable to hold. The 6.7-inch pOLED display curves gracefully at the edges, a design choice that Motorola has embraced despite the industry trend toward flat screens in this segment. Initially skeptical of the curved display, I found it to be a revelation after using it as my primary phone. The curve not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also makes the phone easier to grip.

This display is no slouch on the technical front either. With a Full HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and 10-bit color, it ticks all the boxes for a vibrant and fluid visual experience. The Pantone validation, particularly in the Natural color preset, ensures color accuracy and a more subdued, natural look compared to the vivid default setting. While some users might find the curved edges cause minor reflections when watching OTT shows, gaming, or browsing YouTube, I found these reflections manageable and easy to overlook given the overall display quality.

Sony LYTIA Camera

Motorola has wisely opted for a dual-camera setup on the Edge 50 Fusion, avoiding the temptation to add unnecessary lenses. The star here is the main 50MP camera featuring Sony’s LYTIA LYT-700 sensor. This sensor employs a stacked CMOS design, enhancing low-light performance and detail capture. The 50MP lens, with optical image stabilization and a wide f/1.88 aperture, excels in various lighting conditions, delivering sharp and vibrant photos.

The secondary 13MP ultrawide camera is equally impressive, offering a 120° field of view and integrated Macro Vision for detailed close-ups. The ultra-wide capabilities are perfect for capturing expansive scenes without compromising on detail. Both rear cameras support 4K video recording, a rare feature at this price point.

The 32MP front camera with Quad Pixel technology is another highlight, providing excellent selfies and supporting 4K video recording. This makes the Edge 50 Fusion the only phone in its segment to offer such high-resolution video capabilities on the front camera, making it a boon for content creators and selfie enthusiasts.

Performance and Battery

Powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, the Edge 50 Fusion delivers a snappy and responsive user experience. This phone handles everyday tasks effortlessly, managing more demanding applications without noticeable lag. Whether navigating through the UI animations or launching apps, there were no stutter issues or inconsistencies. Even while playing demanding games, the phone maintained smooth performance without dropping frames, ensuring an enjoyable and seamless gaming experience.

Motorola continues its tradition of offering a near-stock Android experience with minimal bloatware. The Edge 50 Fusion runs on Android 14 with Motorola’s Hello UI, promising three OS upgrades and four years of security updates. This clean and efficient interface, combined with useful Motorola features like Family Space and Moto Unplugged, enhances the user experience without overwhelming the system with unnecessary apps.

The 5000mAh battery ensures impressive longevity, easily lasting a full day of typical use. Motorola’s 68W TurboPower charging is a game-changer, providing a significant charge in just 15 minutes. This means less downtime and more time enjoying the phone’s features.

Conclusion

Priced starting at Rs 22,999, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion offers outstanding value for money. It combines a premium design, robust performance, and a camera setup that rivals more expensive models. For those seeking a feature-rich smartphone, this device stands out as a top all-rounder in the under-25k segment.
