London-based technology company Nothing has unveiled the second edition of its Community Edition Project, expanding on the overwhelming success of last year’s campaign. This initiative continues the brand’s commitment to co-creation, giving its global community a direct hand in shaping the next iteration of its smartphones and accessories.
Building on last year’s triumph, where 1,000 limited-edition glow-in-the-dark Phone (2a) Plus units sold out in just 15 minutes and earned a Gold iF Design Award, Nothing is back with an even more ambitious challenge for 2025. This year, four distinct creative briefs have been launched simultaneously, allowing participants extended time to refine their ideas and foster deeper collaboration among winners. Additionally, a £1,000 cash prize will be awarded to each winning entry, serving as both recognition and motivation for visionary designers and creators.
2025 Community Edition Project Briefs
Nothing is inviting creative minds from across the world to submit their ideas for the ultimate version of Phone (3a). Entries can be submitted between March 26 and April 23, with winners getting the exclusive opportunity to work alongside the Nothing team to bring their concepts to life.
Here are the four key categories for this year’s competition:
🔹 Hardware Design: Reinvent the look and feel of Phone (3a) with a bold, fresh aesthetic.
🔹 Accessory Design: Create an exclusive, collectible accessory that complements the Phone (3a) Community Edition.
🔹 Software Design: Develop unique UI elements, such as wallpapers, widgets, and clock icon packs, that enhance the device’s interactive experience.
🔹 Marketing Campaign: Pitch a creative promotional concept, including key visuals, a launch moment, or an event that elevates the product’s appeal.
A Bigger and Bolder Co-Creation Initiative
By launching all four briefs at once, Nothing aims to give participants ample time for collaboration and idea refinement, fostering a truly dynamic and interactive design process. Winners will not only gain global recognition but also the chance to see their concepts brought to life in a real-world product launch.
“Last year’s Community Edition Project was an incredible success, showcasing the talent and passion of our community,” said a spokesperson from Nothing. “This year, we’re taking things further by giving even more creative freedom and rewarding our winners with cash prizes. It’s all about making technology truly personal.”
