In a major push to revive the legacy French tech brand Alcatel in India, NxtCell India has partnered with Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, to commence local manufacturing of Alcatel devices. The initiative marks Alcatel’s re-entry into the Indian smartphone market after a seven-year hiatus.
NxtCell India has committed an initial investment of ₹260 crore to reintroduce the Alcatel brand and aims to tap into the mid-premium segment with devices priced between ₹20,000 and ₹25,000.
“We’ve partnered with Dixon Technologies’ subsidiary Padget Electronics to manufacture a range of devices under the French technology brand Alcatel. We’re starting with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million smartphones and will expand into other product categories gradually,” said Atul Vivek, Chief Business Officer, NxtCell India.
The first wave of Made-in-India Alcatel smartphones is expected to hit the market in the next 8–10 weeks. NxtCell aims to disrupt the ₹20,000–₹25,000 price band by introducing stylus-equipped smartphones—previously only seen in flagship models priced upwards of ₹80,000.
In a strategic move to reach online consumers, Alcatel has partnered with Flipkart for e-commerce distribution.
“Our team has ensured a seamless technology transfer, embedding advanced manufacturing excellence right here in India and reinforcing our commitment to the Make in India vision,” said Ansh Rathi, Chief Operating Officer, NxtCell India.
The assembly line at Padget Electronics will involve 500 employees, with 200 dedicated exclusively to Alcatel devices.
This strategic partnership combines NxtCell’s market vision with Dixon’s manufacturing strength to reinvigorate Alcatel as a competitive player in India’s vibrant smartphone market.
