Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold, Its Most Ambitious Foldable Yet with Dual-Hinge 10-Inch Display

Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, a device that turns years of concept sketches and tech speculation into a commercial reality. The tri-folding smartphone marks Samsung’s most ambitious step in foldable engineering yet, aimed at bridging the gap between a phone and a tablet through a dual-hinge design that unfolds into a full 10-inch display. When folded, the device works like a standard smartphone with its 6.5-inch cover screen, but once opened, it transforms into a spacious tablet-like interface powered by Android 16 with One UI 8.

The Galaxy Z TriFold measures just 3.9 mm when fully open and 12.9 mm when folded, a remarkable feat of engineering considering its two-hinge structure. Samsung’s new Armor FlexHinge technology synchronizes the movement of all three panels using a combination of dual hinges and a dual-rail mechanism to minimize the gap when folded. To ensure structural durability, the hinge housing is crafted from titanium, the frame uses Advanced Armor Aluminum, and the back panel incorporates ceramic glass fiber reinforced polymer. The device weighs 309 grams and carries an IP48 rating, offering resistance to fresh water but not dust.

At the heart of the TriFold is a 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1600 nits. The 6.5-inch outer display is even brighter at 2600 nits, ensuring visibility in direct sunlight. Samsung has built multitasking deeply into the software experience, allowing users to run three apps simultaneously in portrait mode. Standalone Samsung DeX support enables the device to function like a desktop when connected to an external monitor, complete with up to four active workspaces.

Powering the TriFold is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, based on a 3 nm process optimized for heavy multitasking and on-device AI. Samsung has equipped the device with a 5,600 mAh battery distributed across three cells to balance weight across the tri-panel structure. With 45 W fast charging, the TriFold can reach 50 percent in about half an hour. The camera system features a 200 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10 MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom. Both the main and cover displays house 10 MP front cameras for seamless video calling regardless of configuration.

Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z TriFold in Korea on December 12, 2025, followed by releases in the U.S. and UAE. Although Samsung has not yet confirmed an India launch date, the company typically aligns India availability close to its global rollout. Buyers will also receive a 50 percent discount on one-time display repairs, an incentive clearly aimed at reducing concerns around foldable screen durability. Samsung is additionally offering a six-month trial of Google AI Pro with 2 TB of cloud storage.

With the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung is signaling that the next chapter of foldable innovation will focus on expanding usability rather than simply bending screens—a move that could redefine the boundaries of mobile productivity.
