Sony recently expanded its X series party speakers line-up in India with the launch of SRS-XP700, SRS-XP500, and SRS-XG500. We at DeviceNext reviewed the SRS-XP500. The new X Series powered with Mega Bass and Live sound which makes them both good for for indoor and outdoor activities.

Design:

This is a tall Bluetooth speaker with firm footing. The build is primarily polycarbonate and there are bumpers at the bottom and on the side that will allow users to prop it either vertically or horizontally. Sony has followed a minimalistic design approach with the SRS-XP500, you will notice a large metallic mesh grille flanked by slick handles with LED glow lights. These handles twinkle softly which sets your mood for your in house or outdoor party. You can change the sequence of the lights  as per your own preference by via Music Center App or Fiestable app.

The backside of the speaker has a concealed flap, under that it has two USB-A ports for plug and play/charging mobile devices, two 1/4-inch microphones inputs with dedicated volume knobs, a 3.5mm audio jack for wired connection for playback. You will also find three more buttons, one for  party connect that lets you pair multiple Sony speakers, second button is a toggle for battery care and the third button lets you turn on or off the LED lighting.

Though it bit bulky to carry around but Sony SRS XP500 comes with IP66 dust and water-resistance certification. Overall, the Sony SRS-XG500 design and build looks and feel premium.

Performance:

The SRS XP500 is capable of running on power either from an AC outlet connected by the supplied AC power cord (mains lead) or from the rechargeable built-in lithium-ion battery. It took us around 3 hrs. to charge the built-in battery. 10 minutes of charging provide approximately 80 minutes of music playback. (Provided that the volume level of the speaker is set to 16, the sound effect is set to MEGA BASS, and the lighting function is set to off.) Connecting this speaker with your mobile device is very easy and its better you also download the Music Center App or Fiestable app so that you can configure various playing mode of this speaker. The SRS XP500 Bluetooth party speaker packs with two-fourteen centimeter woofers and two-five centimeter tweeters, all forward-firing gives you deep and punchy bass output. The SRS-XP500 is a robustly built party speaker that can withstand outdoor usage, gives you absolutely delightful, crisp and balanced sound. But 2 things which we noticed about in this speaker is that it gives you better output while you use it with the power plug but while using it with the built-in battery the output drops and its noticeable. Another thing is that SRS XP500 is good while you use it indoors, but as we took it out for a terrace party we found that it didn’t  gave us that desired output, as this is 76Watt speaker we can’t expect much as its always better to go for 120Watt speaker for outdoor parties. But you have Sony Party Connect feature you can pair SRS XP500 with up to 100 compatible speakers to further boost audio.

Verdict: SRS XP500 is a good solid build speaker which gives you great output for you home, small restaurants or cafes, with good battery life, it also gives you lots of connectivity options like USB-A ports for plug and play/charging mobile devices, two 1/4-inch microphones inputs with dedicated volume knobs, a 3.5mm audio jack for wired connection for playback, ₹26,990 which might look a little steep.
