With the world moving to the digital space, mobile phones and similar gadgets have become a necessity for everyone. They are utilized in office work, groceries, social media, online lifestyle shopping or simply to connect with your friends and family. However, we make mistakes and at times there are unforeseen circumstances that could lead to our gadgets suffering water damage from an accidental coffee spill or an unlucky rain day.
Here are a few things you can do to make sure your phone is waterproof and your data is safe from the elements:
Cover all possible openings and ports:
Precaution is always better than the cure, so it’s always advisable to be prepared for something to happen to your gadgets. One way to do that is to make sure that you cover all openings and ports that could be the gateway of a water spill meeting your gadgets internal circuitry. However, before you close your gadget openings and ports it is wise to clean your device thoroughly and remove any dirt, hair or small objects that may be obstructing the openings. Plugging something in a port that has dirt may lead to connectors and ports of your microSD card, SIM, or USB to suffer damage. Once cleaned you can use anti-dust/spill port covers that can help limit the damage of a water spill and a quick rescue can save your phone from a trip to the rice bag.
Use waterproof cases
We are a clumsy race, falling down and accidental spills are part of the occupational hazard of being human. Using waterproof cases for our phones and gadgets could be our saving grace after all even with the current IP-rated phones in the market, being a little extra protective of your gadgets and data is needed in this digital age. The cases come in various different classes that differ in the amount of submersion depth they can
handle. The classes include standard, rugged and heavy-duty, each providing us at least 10 mins of water submersion without any damage to the gadgets.
Keep Zippered storage bags with you in case of emergency
If you wish to travel outside for work but you are not sure if it might rain or not, keeping a zippered storage bag could save your gadgets in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. The zippered storage bags won’t only keep your gadgets safe from rain and dust but also allow some touch screen and button functionality for you to use your phones and gadgets in case of emergencies. Additionally, apart from zippered storage bags the waterproof pouches and dry bags offer a budget-friendly alternative to waterproof cases and could help you keep your phone dry and alive.
Water repellent sprays
Moisture and technology have never been the best of friends, but a third-wheeling companion in the form of a water repellent spray could help bridge the gap. Utilizing water repellent sprays is the easiest way to waterproof your phone and gadgets. These sprays will make your device almost completely impermeable to water while also reducing the bulk of a carrying a waterproof case. Even though the spray helps in waterproofing your phone it is not an ideal choice if you are thinking about holidays that include the phone being submerged underwater for an extended period of time. The spray coating will help defend against the elements for a long time, however the coating might wear out over time and will need to be changed once every 6 months to a year.
Remember to take these necessary steps to lessen the chances of your phone or gadgets suffering water damage. However, in case this Plan A doesn’t work, having insurance for your gadgets like a Mobile or Laptop Protection plan from an established dealer is always a good Plan B to fall back on.
