Sreeram-Srinivasan

Mass production of electronic equipment begins with one successful prototype design. From large -scale manufacturer to an emerging startup, this step is most crucial to success – it aids in the visualization, design, and performance of a product and gives a complete picture.

Syrma Technology – an iconic EMS manufacturer from Chennai, has been helping customers to design great products, with their advanced in-house design capabilities and fast rapid prototyping services. In an interaction with Jayanta Ghosh, Editor in Chief of DeviceNext, Dr. Sreeram Srinivasan, CEO, Syrma Technology shared their motive how to help companies to go to the market soon with a finished product.

Syrma technology is part of the Tandon Group, an over 4-decade old group that has been into Electronics Hardware Manufacturing. Syrma aspires to be a partner choice for start-ups to super brands through its service offerings in Electronics Design, Tester development, quick prototype development and Manufacturing. We work with Global Fortune 500 companies and exports constitutes over 85% of our sales.

Syrma has its footprint established with five state-of-the-art facilities including at Chennai, Bawal in the North and Bargur near Bangalore for Electronics Manufacturing. Syrma also has established four other satellite plants in TN to promote employment of rural women and empower them. Syrma is in the process of merging with SGS Tekniks, an equi-sized company to become over a Rs.1000 Cr. entity post-merger to enhance our geography, capacity and capability footprints.

Presently what services is the company providing to its customers

From custom design and manufacturing of RFID tags and Magnetics to turnkey design and manufacturing services we deliver high-mix, flexible volume production of electronic boards and boxes spanning multiple verticals including IoT, Medical, Automotive, Telecom, Networking, Industrial, Power and other electronic sectors.

Why it’s important to focus on the Rapid Prototyping technologies and what it means for the country and the industry?

Quick prototyping support is key to customers for proving their designs or prototypes before they refine their products and flag off bulk production. In this, our support to the Indian start-ups and well-established companies is also critical as it allows them to iteratively refine their product concepts. Our Concept co-creation initiative also rides on our ability to design products for our customers form an idea or concept they discuss with us and give them the first parts for their testing and trials. The quick turn-around of these parts is an important facet with parts made within 4 to 6 weeks including procurement of all components.

How Syrma helps startups to unlock their full potential for better product and future?

In Syrma we have been successful in setting up in 2018, the Zone of Autonomous Creation (ZAC) – a quick prototyping facility dedicated for design companies, chipset designers (Reference designs) and startups. The uniqueness of ZAC is that it is fully autonomous and independent of our mass production shops and also reports into our Sales & Marketing function.

It has dedicated line for PCB assembly with an autonomous team that has procurement, process, quality and NPI (new product introduction) engineers. It has its own Stores for components independent of the main Plant. Thus, we help the not only startups but also mainstream product companies to quickly convert their ideas into high quality parts.

Our co-founder Mr. Sandeep Tandon is also an active angel investor supporting a wide range of start-ups in India. Timely support at times of need would be a critical success factor for these start-ups in addition to quick support on small volume high quality electronics.

How through innovative MaaS, Syrma is reducing cost, gets product to the market sooner to gain competitive advantage?

One of Syrma core strength to be highlighted is significant Bill of Materials cost reduction at scalable volumes. Syrma is being the one stop solution for our customers from design to testing, through production. Our facility in Chennai & Bawal can conveniently ship directly to our customers worldwide.
